What happened to me the other day.

Some of you may have saw my tweet the other day and panicked. Sorry if it alarmed you, but I”m doing fine. That said, I did end up going to the hospital yesterday. I am very thankful for everyone expressed concern, so I believe you deserve some details and and explanation.

What simply happened was simple: exhaustion and dehydration.

Most of you know how much I work, not just “work work” but also my art, personal projects, etc. When I gave blood a few weeks ago, I think I just did a bad job about maintaining my water intake. If I had to guess, I probably only had five glasses of water in the past three weeks. FIVE! In addition to that, the weather in Seattle has been taking a toll on me—funny to say Seattle’s warm weather, but hey, it has been hot.

My dehydration also caused a case of gout on my toe. Most of you know this as the illness of kings because it’s usually associated with eating a lot of red meat and drinking red wine. Those of you who know me real well also know that those are the two things I do not consume the most. However, gout can be caused by dehydration as well. My toe was in so much pain that there were times the inflamation just caused me to fall over while just standing there.

This was pain I have felt in a long time…probably since watching all of Spiderman 3.

I want to let you all know I’m doing fine…resting the rest of the week and will be ready to be back to my old self tomorrow. I’m going to make some changes to make sure this doesn’t happen again:

  • Always have a bottle of water by the computer and take a hydration nudge every hour.
  • Instead of waking up really early and losing sleep, I’m going to walk Green Lake during lunch to make myself get out of the house rather than working all the way through the day.
  • Change scenery by trying to work at two locations during the day. I work from home, so maybe I can spend one half at home and the other half at a cafe.

Again, thank you all very much for your care and concern. I’m feeling just fine now, but this has made me realize how much I am cared for by my friends and family. That said, remember there are people off much worse than me health wise. Let’s continue to send good vibes to them.

Why the texting/driving law is stupid

The new cell phone law in Washington State will take effect on June 10, which ban texting and driving.

I don’t text and drive much, but I do check my Google maps a ton, however. Checking your maps, email, Twitter and other non-SMS functions are legal.

My question: How do you differentiate them from SMS text messaging?

You can’t.

This is presumption, not probable cause. Are we to believe that an officer in another car will be able to tell if someone is texting or checking his/her map?

It’s not a black and white situation. Sure, there are a lot of things you shouldn’t do while driving, like shaving your bikini zone. That’s still legal, however :: imagine the sign for that one — “Do not shave your privates while driving. $101 fine.”

It also gets me a bit peeved when people immediately assume people texting and driving are not paying attention. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve texted at a four-way stop and had to honk at other people to go because it was their right-of-way. You know, it’s quite possible for someone who is doing nothing but driving to still be more dangerous than someone multi-tasking.

No, you probably shouldn’t text and drive, but you should have the common sense to be aware of this, not making it illegal.

What are your thoughts?

I remember seeing this trailer in first grade at a bowling alley…selective memory indeed.

Halo 3 :: Landfall

I get really inspired when I see videos like this. This is a mock of how Neil Blomkamp (director of District 9) would direct the Halo movie. I’m blowing away by the attention to detail and commitment to story-telling Blomkamp is in this. Like the Kid Cudi song goes, “See, if you can’t do what you imagine, then what is imagination to you?”

Stay inspired!
